Australia’s Best Wine Regions By State

23 Aug, 2022 | News

Australia is a beautiful country, rich in luscious landscapes and beautiful travel destinations. Something that we’re proud of here in Australia is our wine culture and the many locations that you can visit via charter flight if you consider yourself a wine connoisseur. In Australia, there are four main wine regions – New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia. Between them, Australia has been named the 7th largest wine-producing country in the world.

Whether you prefer a nice Shiraz, a Riesling, or a Chardonnay, there is something for every luxury travel here in Australia. Read on the find out where the best wine regions are by state.

New South Wales – The Hunter Valley

In New South Wales, you can’t go past the Hunter Valley if you’re on a wine tour of the country. Famous for their Sémillons, Chardonnays and Cabernet Sauvignons, the Hunter Valley is home to many of the nation’s most incredible vineyards and wineries, such as Tyrrell’s Wines, Krinklewood and Pepper Tree Wines.

Victoria – Mornington Peninsula

Just an hour’s drive from Melbourne CBD, the Mornington Peninsula is known for its beaches, hinterland, and of course, wine. Home to over 50 luxurious vineyards and wineries, Mornington Peninsula’s colder climate makes it the perfect place to create beautiful Pinot Gris, Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays. Furthermore, the Mornington Peninsula is absolutely brimming with heritage and culture, which can be best experienced at vineyards such as Crittenden Estate, Elgee Park and Merricks Estate.

South Australia – The Barossa Valley

A wine tour of Australia would not be complete without a stop in the Barossa Valley. Adelaide, as a whole, is considered the wine capital of Australia, with more than 200 places to enjoy a sip. It truly has earned its place on the Great Wine Capitals of the World list. The Barossa Valley is home to one of the oldest living vines in the world and produces a Shiraz that is absolutely worth the flight down. If you’re heading down this way, you’ve got to make the stop at Hewitson to this world-renowned wine, as well as Yalumba and Seppelt, just to name a few.

Western Australia – Margaret River

Known for producing elegant drops, Western Australia’s Margaret River region is perfect for viticulture and is known for its vast arrangement of wine varieties – Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, Sémillons, Sauvignon Blancs, Chenin Blancs, Chardonnays and Shirazs. Margaret River may be off the beaten track, but it’s certainly a place worth visiting for those who love their wine. If you’re stopping here, a few must-do locations include Voyager Estate, Cape Mentelle and Leeuwin Estate.

BONUS: Tasmania – All of it!

Last but certainly not least is Tasmania – all of it. Its colder climate makes it a beautiful place to create incredible wines, and this region of Australia is known for its Rieslings and Pinot Noirs. Tasmania makes an excellent final leg of a charter flight wine tour across the country and will not disappoint even the most particular wine critics, plus, the food there is exquisite too! In Tasmania, some of our favourite wineries include Freycinet Vineyards, Stefano Lubiana Wines and Tamar Ridge. All of these destinations host a rich history and stunning backdrop for all of your wine-tasting adventures.
