The Tasman, a Luxury Collection hotel in Hobart, has opened LUMINA, a striking new event space aimed squarely at Tasmania’s growing business events, incentive travel and celebration market. Announced on 14 September, the space is open now and already taking enquiries, sitting inside Parliament Square with views over Hobart’s waterfront.

The building itself is worth the visit on its own. Designed by fjcstudio, the same Australian practice behind The Tasman, LUMINA is entirely pillar-free, held up by cantilevered glulam beams made from Tasmanian plantation oak, the largest of them weighing four tonnes. It’s a genuine architectural statement rather than a generic function room, and it manages to be flexible without feeling like a compromise: up to 180 guests theatre-style, 156 in classroom seating, 190 for a gala dinner, 166 for a wedding reception, or 220 for a standing cocktail event.
That flexibility was the whole point. The brief responded to a gap in the market for premium, boutique-scale spaces that can flex between an intimate boardroom session and a full-scale gala without losing atmosphere either way. Food and beverage follows the same brief, built on seasonal Tasmanian produce, ethical sourcing and wellness-minded menus, with formats ranging from plated dinners and long tables through to interactive food stations and live cooking. General Manager Carolyn Smith framed the launch as a new chapter, not just for the hotel but for Hobart’s events landscape more broadly, giving The Tasman a dedicated setting to match its existing service and culinary reputation.
It’s a smart addition to Hobart’s calendar, and a timely one. Tasmania’s conference and incentive market has been building steadily, and a venue of this scale gives event planners somewhere genuinely new to point a mainland client toward, rather than defaulting to the same handful of familiar rooms. A 190-seat gala dinner or a 180-person conference is exactly the kind of event that draws a single corporate group travelling together, and getting that whole party into Hobart on one aircraft, on one schedule, tends to matter more to the organiser than almost anything else about the day.
That’s precisely where chartering earns its place in the planning conversation. Coordinating flights for a delegation, an incentive group or a wedding party heading to Hobart is a logistics exercise in its own right, and doing it on a single aircraft avoids the scattered arrivals and awkward waiting that come with everyone booking their own commercial seat. Adagold Aviation’s business charter and group charter flights services are built for exactly this kind of coordinated arrival, and our team can help build a Hobart itinerary around whatever LUMINA has planned for your group.
