Monarto Safari Resort: Australia’s Largest Safari Experience Now Open for Bookings

17 Mar, 2025 | News

After years of anticipation, Australia’s most ambitious safari experience is finally here—Monarto Safari Resort is officially open for bookings ahead of its grand launch on May 28, 2025. The $40 million expansion will transform Monarto Safari Park into the world’s largest safari experience outside of Africa, offering a five-star luxury resort and glamping facilities in South Australia’s Murraylands.

A Vision Years in the Making

Originally announced in 2019, the project was initially set for completion in 2021 but faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and logistical challenges. Now, the vision is becoming a reality under the management of Journey Beyond, a leading experiential tourism group renowned for iconic Australian travel experiences, including The Ghan and Indian Pacific rail journeys.

Journey Beyond CEO Chris Tallent expressed excitement over the development, stating, “With years of expertise in managing unique tourism operations in remote destinations across Australia, Journey Beyond is exceptionally well-placed to manage this cutting-edge new build.”

Unparalleled Luxury Meets Wildlife Conservation

Monarto Safari Resort will feature 78 elegantly designed guest rooms and 20 luxury safari tents, all offering panoramic views of the park’s Wild Africa precinct. Located just an hour from Adelaide, guests will have the opportunity to wake up to the sight of southern white rhinoceros, giraffes, and cheetahs roaming freely in a setting designed to replicate Africa’s great plains.

The resort’s owner, Gerry Ryan OAM, highlighted Journey Beyond’s “expertise in crafting exceptional travel experiences” and reiterated the resort’s mission: “Our goal has always been to offer guests an unparalleled experience that connects them with the natural beauty and conservation efforts of the area.”

A Major Boost to Regional Tourism and Employment

Beyond delivering a world-class safari experience, Monarto Safari Resort is expected to generate significant economic benefits for the region. The construction phase alone has created 223 full-time equivalent (FTE) positions, including 72 direct and 151 indirect jobs. Once fully operational, the resort and its new visitor center will add another 90 ongoing FTE positions, strengthening the local economy.

Commitment to Sustainability and Conservation

A core aspect of the resort’s mission is its commitment to sustainability and wildlife conservation. Journey Beyond has pledged that a portion of the revenue from every stay will support conservation programs at Monarto Safari Park. This initiative aligns with the organization’s dedication to responsible tourism and environmental stewardship.

Zoos South Australia CEO Elaine Bensted praised Journey Beyond’s leadership in this area, stating, “Their extensive knowledge of regional tourism, coupled with a strong focus on sustainability and conservation, will ensure that the resort becomes a premier destination for nature enthusiasts.”

A Once-in-a-Lifetime Safari Adventure

With its blend of luxury, adventure, and commitment to conservation, Monarto Safari Resort is set to become a bucket-list destination for travelers looking for an African-style safari experience in Australia. Guests can enjoy guided wildlife encounters, premium dining experiences, and exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the park’s conservation programs.
