Piper Aircraft has announced that its M700 Piper M-Class Fury has now been certified for operations on unpaved runways. This development significantly enhances the aircraft’s versatility, making it a great option for aviation in rural Australia, where access to paved runways is often limited. With this new certification, the M700 Fury can land and take off from gravel or dirt airstrips, offering benefits for industries such as mining, agriculture, and medical evacuations, which require access to remote areas.
The Piper M700 Fury is equipped with a 373 kW (500 hp) Pratt & Whitney PT6A-42A engine, which provides the power needed for such operations while maintaining fuel efficiency. The aircraft can cruise at 508 km/h and cover a range of 2,222 km, making it ideal for medium-distance travel. It features the Garmin G3000 avionics suite, ensuring pilots have access to advanced navigational and safety systems. With space for up to six passengers, the M700 Fury offers a mix of comfort and reliability.
Although this certification marks a significant achievement, it is important to note that the FAA’s certification does not automatically apply in Australia. Aircraft operating in Australia must meet the standards set by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA). While FAA certifications are taken into account, CASA must still grant its own approval. This process ensures that the aircraft meets all the specific operational and safety requirements for Australia’s unique conditions.
