It will soon be that time of the year once again when Australia’s rev-heads converge on the mountain to pay homage to one of Australia’s greatest annual sporting events, Bathurst 1000. All walks of life from across the country have been making the journey to Mount Panorama to see history being made each year. Whether they are staying at a trackside hotel or in a swag on the mountainside, fans will do all they can to get to the iconic track in October – like hiring a private jet to the Bathurst 1000.
For those looking for the ultimate weekend, flying in your own private jet to Bathurst with a group of friends would have to be one of the best ways to get to the race as well as ticking-off chartering a plane from your bucket list. The good news is that it’s not as expensive as you may think. It all depends on where you are travelling from, what type of plane you would like to fly on and how many people are sharing the cost.
Adagold Aviation has developed a list of what you need to know when getting a private jet to the Bathurst 1000.
1. Your budget will determine your experience
Naturally, if you want to charter a plane from somewhere like Perth, it’s going to cost you a lot. But don’t despair, if you live out of the state, you and a group of friends grab a discounted fare to a closer city like Sydney and charter a plane from there. Not all planes cost the same to charter. Business jets are at the top of the scale but some twin-engine ‘turbo-prop’ can also be just as comfortable yet cheaper.
2. Get your mates on board
The more you have in your group, the more the costs can be shared. Just remember, you need to keep the number manageable so you can get the right-sized aircraft. An 8 seat turbo-prop plane with catering will be around, $7,000. An 8 seat jet will set you back around $9,500. This will get you from Sydney to Bathurst on the Friday and return on Sunday. Of course prices will vary depending on demand and the types of aircraft available at the time of booking.
3. Commit early
The Bathurst 1000 is a popular event to charter a plane to so get in early and secure the aircraft that suits your group and budget. Keep in mind that you will need to pay for the aircraft charter before you depart. This usually means a deposit upfront and full payment before wheels up.
4. You’re going to Bathurst 1000 – you don’t need to pack much
Most small business jets and turboprops have luggage restrictions. It varies depending on the type of aircraft, but often it is as little as 10kg. Make sure you pack something warm but don’t go overboard!
5. Use a reputable company to manage your charter
You want your experience to be a memorable one for all the right reasons. You need to be confident that everything will run smoothly for the weekend and that there’s no surprises or avoidable delays. Not all charter companies are the same and some are better organised than others.
The good news is that Adagold Aviation can assist you in find the right aircraft type and charter operator to suit your budget.
