Sirius Aviation, a Swiss innovator in aviation technology, is set to make headlines with the official unveiling of their hydrogen-electric SiriusJet luxury business aircraft at the MOVE Expo in London. This highly anticipated event will spotlight the future of sustainable mobility and the groundbreaking advancements in aviation.
The SiriusJet represents a clean-sheet eVTOL (electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing) design, powered by a hydrogen-electric power train that drives 28 300 mm 1 kN electric engines. This pioneering aircraft is set to redefine standards in the aviation industry with its eco-friendly technology and luxurious features.
Alexey Popov, CEO of Sirius Aviation, will lead the official launch at the expo, which focuses on cutting-edge sustainable mobility solutions. In a company announcement, Sirius Aviation highlighted the significance of their collaboration with BMW Group Designworks, stating, “This launch marks a significant partnership between Sirius Aviation AG and BMW Group Designworks, blending state-of-the-art technology with elegant design. The SiriusJet sets a new standard in aviation with its hydrogen propulsion system paired with luxurious business jet features. This pioneering approach signifies a major leap towards sustainable aviation.”
The innovative hydrogen-electric system of the SiriusJet operates by drawing in oxygen through an intake in the aircraft’s nose. This oxygen reacts with hydrogen stored in a fuselage tank, generating electricity to power the motors and producing water as a byproduct, which is expelled through the exhast at the tail. Notably, this process results in zero carbon emissions, positioning the SiriusJet as a leader in eco-friendly aviation.
Performance projections for the SiriusJet are impressive, with the aircraft expected to cruise at an altitude of 30,000 feet at a speed of 280 knots, while producing less than 60 decibels of noise, ensuring a quiet and comfortable flight experience.
Sirius Aviation plans to offer the SiriusJet in two configurations: a luxury business version that accommodates four passengers with a range of 998 nautical miles, and a Millennium version designed for five passengers with a slightly reduced range of 564 nautical miles. Both versions promise unparalleled comfort and performance, catering to the needs of modern business travellers.
Looking ahead, Sirius Aviation aims to conduct the first flight of the SiriusJet next year, with certification and initial deliveries projected between 2028 and 2030. This timeline underscores the company’s commitment to bringing their innovative aircraft to market and transforming the landscape of sustainable aviation.
As the MOVE Expo unfolds, industry experts and enthusiasts alike will be watching closely as Sirius Aviation showcases the SiriusJet, marking a significant milestone in the journey towards greener, more efficient air travel.
