King’s background spans senior roles across the Australian Army and defence procurement. He assumed the Joint Aviation Systems position in 2023 after leading the Army Aviation Systems Branch, overseeing the acquisition and sustainment of helicopters and tactical uncrewed aerial systems.

His operational experience includes commanding the 7th Combat Service Support Battalion during global missions. He is a Fellow of Engineers Australia and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

King says his priorities will centre on strengthening partnerships and delivering capabilities aligned with the region’s evolving security environment.

The appointment follows a period of leadership changes across the defence sector, including Steve Roberton’s recent appointment as Boeing’s president for Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.
